My despatch No. 113 of the 28th ultimo will have already apprized Your Lordship that I had received here the amount due to the colony from the Agra and Masterman's Bank, and had also remitted sufficient to cover all probable accruing liabilities, except the September Quarter's Military Contribution. I then requested, and beg here to repeat the request, that payment of that quarter may be allowed to stand over till receipt here of the $90,000 subsidiary coinage expected in Her Majesty's Ship Pearl.

3. Were it not for the Crown Agent's exceeding their instructions and sending $60,000 instead of $30,000 of 10 cent pieces, there would be more than sufficient to meet the Military Contribution, as well as other expenses.

As it is, the colony is without funds when urgently required, and not merely loses the profit, which it should have made by coining for a very active market those pieces in its own mint, but has actually to pay a heavy charge for that coinage, though maintaining here all the Machinery and Staff necessary for the work.
5. Under the above circumstances, however, there is no longer any question, as supposed by Your Lordship, of repaying...
